A place of Love and Loathing
A year after my arrival to Montreal, escaping a city that tried to suck me in its spiral and longing for what I left hanging behind, I was asked to exhibit photographs from Beirut, Lebanon.
I did not know where to start and what to show. I started the excavation process both on the battleground of my memory and in the chaos of what had become my room and living space, polaroids that I have shot, printed and collected throughout the years organized themselves around my individual story and gave birth to this exhibition today.
They are simultaneously a magnifying lens and a filter to the raw and mixed feelings I have for a biblical country suffocated by it’s own constructed image, always on the brink of destruction, an eternal Narcissus.
